Lonely Planet Review
Occupying two stripey blue and white buildings just down from Kemp's Corner, this isn't a bad choice if you want to be based near the attractions of North Mumbai. Rooms have mid-range facilities at budget rates.
Breach Candy has faded a little since Salman Rushdie lived here, but it's still an upmarket address, which is why it's surprising to find a decent budget hotel here. Kemp's Corner has a tiny reception area, but the Tom Thumb theme doesn't extend to the rooms, which are spacious and comfortable, if a little dated. Singles are just as big as doubles. Facilities include TVs, air-con and phones and the hotel has off-street guest parking. There's a small lift, but for some reason it stops on the mezzanines between the floors. For meals, your best bet is probably Chowpatty, a five-minute cab ride or 20-minute-walk south.

Author Tip
The hotel is handy for the boutiques around Kemp's Corner and you can assuage your spending guilt with a therapeutic walk around the gardens on Malabar Hill. Chowpatty Beach and the Babulnath Temple are just down the road, and you're almost on top of the best bookshop in Mumbai, Cross Word at Kemp's Corner.
