Lonely Planet Review
Clean as in clinical, central as in a few blocks from Times Sq, cheap as in two-digit rates (often), the Americana is not the quaint home-away-from-home you may dream of, but it gets you the heart of Manhattan for very little.
This 52-room, five-floor hotel has linoleum floors and a glare of fluorescent lights bouncing off the white walls throughout - ie it ain't exactly modern chic, or Victorian comfort. Rooms are generally the same - wash basin in one corner, a walk-in closet in the other, and a wood-frame bed facing a small TV (no cable) atop a dresser. There are four shared bathrooms per floor - everything's kept clean. (Too clean perhaps - there's a noticeable smell of disinfectant in halls and bathrooms.) Management knows their draw - cheap, safe rooms in the centre. There's a computer to check your email, but little reason else to linger here.
