Lonely Planet Review
It's not big on character, but it's clean and safe - and smack dab in the heart of Midtown. The seven-floor Big Apple can bunk 170 travellers. Rooms throughout are bare white deals, and doors seem out of a primary school, but there's a back patio to smoke and drink in, and staff are surprisingly personable.
Dorm rooms are carpeted with four bunks and nothing else. The simple tiled bathroom is down the narrow hallways. Unfortunately there's no storage space in rooms, but staff have safe deposit boxes for the vitals. The ground floor has a kitchen area - with a couple of computers, a TV and a backyard patio just behind. All rooms get the coughing heat pipes for winter warmth, or wall-unit air-con in summer. Private rooms are tiny and (like the dorm crowd) require down-the-hall tinkling, but have cable TV, a safe, a table, a couple of chairs and a hanging rack. There's laundry in the basement.
