Lonely Planet Review
For a spot of class - and art - between Fifth Ave shopping and (more crass) T-shirt vendors in Times Sq, the 77-room Chambers mixes-up playful chic design in its comfortable rooms. Rooms aren't giant, but give the illusion of extra space with small hallways into rooms coated in earthy tones.
Past the giant wood-and-glass entry doors, the towering lobby is a place to linger, with a mezzanine lounge containing a great mix of sofas, armchairs, area rugs and giant, animation-like art on the walls. Plush cushions are plopped on the duvet of the wood-frame bed. A lot of business travellers check in; nice business-oriented details include colour pencils and a roll of tear-away tracing paper on the glass desk plus free Internet access. Small bathrooms have plain concrete floors and giant shower heads. Each floor has its own colour scheme, with textured paint jobs and room numbers indented on the floorboards. The swanky restaurant Town, next door, handles room service.
