Lonely Planet Review
Gold stars are Chelsea stars! This three-storey European-style hotel - with blue halls and gold stars lining the halls - has a very fun, hostel vibe - and three dorm rooms. Nineteen thematic private rooms painted to reflect themes such as Star Trek, Absolutely Fabulous, Coney Island and other wacky things.
Most rooms overlook loud Eighth Avenue, and little single panes of glass block its taxi honks. Thematic rooms are small, with shiny dark-wood floors, a small closet, cable TV and a chair. There are two showers and two toilets - all clean - for every half-dozen rooms; dorms have a private bathroom. The 16 carpeted, more sedate, superior rooms have private bathrooms, TVs with DVDs, and writing desks - but lack much character for the bucks. All have access to a common seating area for the mixed crowd bunking here. The Star has plans to expand next door - including a patio area and a lounge.
