Lonely Planet Review
Primarily a business hotel transformed from a former condominium complex, the 288-room Flatotel has luxurious, if slightly unexciting, rooms and suites catered for comfort. Full apartments are also available.
The standard rooms (called 'deluxe') feature soft king-size platform beds with built-in wood-panel headboard and dresser at the foot of the bed. A modern full-length mirror leans to the wall, and the small work desk (with free high-speed Internet) features an Aenon work chair. There's also TV (with VCR and DVD players), a refrigerator and microwave. Most exciting is the 46th-floor, two-floor fitness centre with soaring Midtown views - purportedly the highest gym in the city. (Too bad it isn't re-fashioned as a bar - who wants to sweat at 500-some feet?) But the Moda restaurant in the lobby (with outdoor area too) isn't a bad place to sip your martini, and the lobby has a fun mix of leather seats and cowhide armchairs.
