Lonely Planet Review
A superb deal, this homely guesthouse - filled with antiques picked up at the Chelsea Flea Market, or created by hand - gives downtown access with guesthouse comfort. And it's all at a third of the Midtown rate.
Open since 1997, the Second Home's seven rooms - above a yoga centre, on the 3rd and 4th floors of a century-old townhouse on busy Second Ave - feature wood floors, TVs with cable, and air-con units in the window, with extras like work desks, colourful area rugs evoking worldly themes, and art by the father of the Peruvian manager. Five rooms have shared bathroom. The roomiest option, and probably the best, the Modern Suite, has a sitting area separated from a roomy bedroom by French doors; the two double beds' bed-frames were put together with assorted pipes and topped with crystal doorknobs.
