Lonely Planet Review

Quotes It's a bit cramped at Meyerbeer but the location a block and a half from the promenade des Anglais and a 10-minute walk to the city or station is awesome.

Meyerbeer's first floor reception area doubles as a common room complete with free cordial and hot drinks, as well as free, but snail's pace, internet. Both security (you're given a door code and keys for 24-hour access) and cleanliness are paramount throughout, and in summer they have free beach mats to cushion your tush from Nice's pebbled beaches. All ensuite dorms and privates have TV, kitchenette (good for stashing cereal), locker (BYO lock), and a small safe, which is very comprehensive indeed but a little overwhelming in the small dorms - think of it as six people living in a studio flat.

How To Get There

The buses from the airport (N° 98) stop on the sea front at the stop called 'Meyerbeer' and the hotel Meyerbeer is opposite down Rue Meyerbeer about 60 meters. From the train station it's just a 10 minute straight walk. As you come out of the station, cross over the main road and go towards the right. A bit further along there is a big red brick building which is a post office on the corner of Rue GOUNOD. Take this street. The Rue Gounod becomes the Rue Meyerbeer after about 5 minutes. The Hostel is at 15 Rue Meyerbeer. IMPORTANT: Please look at your booking conditions when you make a booking for details on arriving outside of our opening hours.

Author Tip

Stock your kitchenette with cheap groceries from the Casino supermarket on the corner of rue Bottero and blvd Gambetta a couple of blocks west; and save some dosh for live jazz and merengue music around the corner at La Havane (14:00-02:30) - a sultry Latin restaurant/bar.

Curious Fact

Security's not a problem here, but still check to make sure the backs of the in-room lockers are secure, as they're occasionally flimsy and/or separated from the main frame, meaning your valuables might look locked from the front, but are easily accessible from the back.
