Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Rooms at the Regence are comfortable and modern if a tad austere (industrial carpet and tapestry-type bedspreads), but with the promenade des Anglais and the old town just a few short blocks away it's unlikely you'll be spending much time indoors, regardless. If you do pop back from a spot of sun bathing, you can cool off in air-conditioned comfort while watching your wall-mounted TV. Beneath a backlit Art Deco ceiling and muralled glass panels, the salon's a snazzy spot for breakfast. If you're driving, the Regence's nearby sister establishment, Hotel Massenet, houses private parking for both hotels, but the Massenet's closed between around 21 November and 5 January, meaning the parking is at that time, too.

Author Tip

Nice has plenty of regional specialty dishes, like the world famous Salade Niçoise. While you're in town a must-try is Socca - a griddle-fried pancake make from chickpea flour and olive oil, served with pepper - head to Chez René Socca on rue Miralhèti (closed Monday, and all of November) along with the locals, who flock here.
