Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Blazing with bright red and purple flowering bougainvillea, at the garden's heart is a fairy-lit gazebo with a table and chairs, overlooked by a summer house-style breakfast room with marble floors and wrought iron chairs tied with big checked bows. Street-facing rooms also have French doors (not balconies, just a wrought iron retainer), but some of the rooms at the back, which cost extra, have balconies overlooking the garden. Floral bathrooms have heated towel rails, and all rooms have air-conditioning. You can check your email either in a little private phone booth at reception, or with wi-fi. If you're lucky you might nab one of just five free parking spaces out the front.

How To Get There

In the heart of Nice, 5 minutes away from the Promenade des Anglais and the walking streets. The Palais des Congrès is 10 minutes away and the Zenith is 10 minutes going towards the RN 202 (ski resorts road) to listen to live singers and artists. The sea is at a stone throw. The casino is facing the sea, the old town of Nice (Vieux Nice) is on the other side of Place Massena. The Jazz festival in the summer and Carnival (Carnaval de Nice) at end of February. Enjoy also the shade of the superb botanical garden made up of regional spices, redolent with fragances.

Author Tip

For more serenity and some see-forever views, head up to Parc du Château, behind the old town. There's no longer a castle here - the 12th-century château was razed in 1706 by Louis XIV. But it's a lovely, leafy spot that's refreshingly cool in summer, once you've climbed all those stairs (otherwise you can zip up in a wheelchair-accessible lift).
