The 'Good Stay' at the top of a quiet street in Montmartre is a perennial budget favourite and the husband and wife operating the hotel are always welcoming and helpful. It's a simple place to stay - linoleum or parquet floors, no lift etc - but comfortable, very clean and - joy of joys - in the process of getting a protracted and much needed face-lift.Some rooms (eg Nos 14, 23, 33, 43 and 53) have little balconies attached and at least one room (No 55) offers a fleeting glimpse of Sacré Cœur. The rooms facing the inner courtyard are smaller and generally reserved for singles. Renovated rooms have lost their threadbare carpet in favour of laminate and have wash basins, shower cubicles, a desk and ample shelving. Almost everything you'll want or need to do in Montmartre will be a stone's throw up or down the hill. Communal showers cost 2.00.

Just down the hill, Café Burq (6 rue Burq, 18e) is a convivial and very buzzy bistro serving unfussy but well-prepared dishes.
Le Close du Montmartre (cnr Rue St-Vincent & Rue des Saules, 18e) northeast of the hotel is a small vineyard dating from 1933 whose 2000 vines actually produce an average 850 bottles of wine each October.
