Lonely Planet Review

Quotes If you have ever wanted to know how Thailand's ethnic-Chinese nouveaux riches live, staying here is almost like being invited to stay as a guest in one of their homes. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, and the neighbourhood is mixed residential and business - making it much less of a scene than the places just one block closer to the beach.

This newish, four-storey building looks like a big gaudy house, complete with verandas sporting pink porcelain balusters, and what seems like miles of glazed tile on every flat surface. Over-the-top common areas contain some positively criminal examples of Chinese furniture - where it appears as though a whole rainforest of tropical hardwoods was felled in order to make them. All of the 25 rooms have attached bath, veranda and all the mod cons, so there it's not as if there is a lack of privacy - when holed up in the room this place feels like any other midrange hotel.

Author Tip

Spend an afternoon getting pampered on the beach with a massage and manicure - and the world-class tropical tan is free. At night, walk a few minutes down the street to the Sphinx Theatre (07634 1500; 120 Th Rat Uthit) for an entertaining cabaret show and an OK meal.
