Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Located on a back road far from the noise of Th Bangla, the Palm View is a good option for visitors who have rented their own vehicle and plan to drive themselves the 1.5km (1mi) to the beach.

The German-managed Palm View Resort does indeed have palms, although the word 'resort' perhaps suggests something a bit more grand. Instead what we have is a smallish hotel of 20 rooms, very recently built and well run. The rooms are clean to a fault and you can practically see yourself in the shiny glazed tile floors. Rooms on the 2nd and 3rd storeys all have verandas overlooking a very retro kidney-shaped pool. And while lounging around the pool, you'll no doubt reflect on how surprising it is that just a few hundred metres will completely change the atmosphere of a place. Unless you have your heart dead set on being in the thick of things, it might be more relaxing to put a kilometre and a half between yourself and the revelry that is downtown Patong - although having said that, it is quite easy to get a taxi or even walk to and from the beach.

Author Tip

Enjoy a day soaking up the rays poolside while watching the hues of the jungle-clad mountains of Phuket change with the angle of the sun. For some action, take the walk to central Patong to go shopping at the massive Jung Ceylon complex and have an authentic, well-priced Thai meal at the downstairs food court.
