Lonely Planet Review
Run by Mike Frame of Mike's Breakfast fame, this appealing mid-range place has a fine location on the lakeshore in central Lakeside. There's a lovely terrace restaurant and the best rooms are in stone cottages in the garden, styled after Nepali village houses.
Hotel Fewa was one of the first hotels on the strip at Lakeside. Most of the lakeshore was undeveloped woodland when Mike Frame, founder of the famous Mike's Restaurant in Kathmandu, opened the place in 1972. Things have changed a bit since then, but this is still the only hotel on the lake side of the road and the mood is surprisingly calm and peaceful considering how close you are to the main drag. The hotel-style rooms are contained in a tasteful modern block at the back, or there are half a dozen cottages in the garden, styled like village houses with a ladder between the levels (which rather rules out disabled guests). The hotel restaurant serves good snack meals and American-style coffee.

Author Tip
Start out with a croissant or a cinnamon bun and a bracing cup of black coffee while you watch the colourful boats on Phewa Tal. After breakfast you can hire a boat right in front of the hotel, or wander north and west along the lakeshore through peaceful, unspoilt countryside.
