Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Down the alley near the 7-Eleven pub, this smart-looking place attracts lots of Indian families on package tours. The building is smart and new, rooms are bright and spacious and there's the inevitable rooftop terrace with mountain views.

Firmly targeting Indian package groups, this is a smart and well-priced option close to Camping Chowk. It's large and modern and most rooms have small balconies looking out towards the lake or the mountains. Guests have a choice of large, tidy rooms with air-con or smaller rooms with fans, and the staff are refreshingly enthusiastic about their jobs. As with most hotels in Lakeside, the best views of Machhapuchhare are from the rooftop terrace. The in-house travel agent can arrange all sorts of cultural and pilgrimage tours - including trips to Tibet - and there's a small restaurant serving convincing Indian and Nepali cuisine. Bags are stored for free and there are dozens of bars and restaurants nearby where you can celebrate completing your trek. However, with lots of families around, it can get a little noisy.

Author Tip

From the hotel, it's a short walk to the taxi stand at Camping Chowk or the boat station at Sailing Boat Ghat so you should have no problem filling the day. After lunch, relax with a novel on the roof and admire the views, before heading out for supper at Lemon Tree, one of the posher restaurants on the strip.
