Quotes This huge glassy edifice offers four-star designer chic in the heart of up-and-coming Smíchov. There are 239 rooms, all spacious and elegantly furnished, with floor-to-ceiling windows and mod cons including DVD and CD players, minibars and modems.

Perhaps the boldest statement of confidence in the whole redevelopment and reinvention of the old industrial suburb of Smíchov, Andel's Hotel aims to be the centrepiece of a new business complex currently underway. They really like their glass here, which does brighten things up on what is otherwise a fairly drab street. The rooms are spread out over five floors, and are all furnished in a smart contemporary style, offering a high level of comfort and an impressive range of mod-cons, including high-speed Internet access. There are 100 rooms reserved for nonsmokers. Superior 'club rooms', come with some pleasurable perks such as bathrobes and slippers, newspapers and free room-service breakfast. Among the additional facilities are a fitness centre, hairdresser and private dining rooms for those intimate business lunches.

Author Tip

You won't find many tourists in Smíchov, but the area has been undergoing some major redevelopment in recent years. Prague's biggest shopping centre, Nový Smíchov, is just round the corner, with more than 150 shops as well as restaurants and a multiplex cinema. There are plenty of places to grab a beer, and Na Verendách, the restaurant of the Staropramen brewery, is a 5min walk south.
