Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The building's origins go back to the 13th century, when it was constructed, apparently, as a wedding gift for a wealthy burgher's daughter. Its colourful past has included stints as a brothel and a funeral home. Today it's a peaceful little hotel with a friendly but restrained atmosphere, and a choice of tastefully furnished rooms. All have the expected 3-star mod cons, though the cheaper attic rooms are slightly smaller, and may be a little darker. Suites are spacious and filled with Victorian-style furnishings which maiden aunts will adore - quite a contrast to the large assemblage of antique swords, knives and axes adorning the walls in some public areas. The hotel offers a babysitting service, and runs a minibus to the airport, train station and elsewhere.

Author Tip

Bethlehem Sq is a quiet place, though you're still very close to the centre of things. Historic Bethlehem Chapel, where Jan Hus preached in the 1400s, is right opposite, and Old Town Square and Charles Bridge are no more than 10min to the north. Klub Architecktu is a good local restaurant, while Monarch Vinný Sklep, one of Prague's best wine bars, is five minutes north.

Curious Fact

Legend says that a 17th-century nobleman buried his treasure in the cellar before being executed, though it has never been found. Sadly, no digging is allowed.
