Lonely Planet Review
This friendly, central hotel has 10 plain-but-comfy rooms decorated with unique art and a stylish little restaurant adorned with surreal painted glass. The artwork by contemporary Prague artists on display in the front window is available to purchase.
The location of this little hotel, roughly halfway between Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, is ideal for sightseeing, close enough to most of the big sights, but far enough away to avoid the noise and ceaseless tourist traffic that characterise the main tour group hubs. The area is bursting with history, and this ancient building, with foundations dating back to the 11th century, has been continually occupied, rebuilt and redesigned over the last thousand years or so. The name, 'At the Jeweller's', comes from one of its previous incarnations as an upmarket jewellery shop during the first half of the 20th century. On the ground floor the snazzy gilt ceilings covered with jewel motifs are a reminder of the property's former life. The rooms (two singles and eight doubles) are simple, clean and unfussy, and there's a good restaurant and bar downstairs.

Author Tip
You couldn't ask for a handier spot. Wenceslas Sq is a 5min walk south and Old Town Sq is a little further in the opposite direction. The Estates Theatre, where Mozart conducted the premiere of Don Giovanni is just down the road, and there are lots of places to eat and drink. Made in Japan is right opposite, Culinaria is on the other side of Uhelný trh.
Curious Fact
If you want to feel special, just remember that the jewellery shop which previously occupied this building was once commissioned to restore the Czech crown jewels.
