Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Located less than two blocks from Ipanema beach, this popular budget spot attracts a mix of young travelers. The rooms and services are pretty basic here, but the hostel is on a quiet, tree-lined street with excellent restaurants and a few bars nearby.

The hostel has four-, six- and eight-bed dorm rooms that are clean and well-maintained. They're painted in warm tones and illuminated with decent natural light through the sizeable windows in each (not that guests spend much time in the rooms). Each room also has its own bathroom and there are several simple private doubles available. There's also a bar on the first floor that makes for a convenient place to meet up with other travelers - even if the drinks are ridiculously overpriced.

Author Tip

For decent meals on a dime, head one block north to Kilograma (tel: 2512 8220; Rua Visconde de Pirajá 644), a large buffet restaurant that charges by the kilo. A tip, only put what you want on your plate; for those of us not used to weighing meals, this way of eating and paying can be a little tricky at first.
