Lonely Planet Review
Overlooking Copacabana beach, this all-glass high-rise has handsomely appointed modern rooms, with the granite-trimmed lobby, professional service and all the other creature comforts you could expect for the price.
All the rooms have big windows, which either face the crashing waves of Copacabana beach or provide a lateral beach view (though you might have to crane your neck). Wood floors and rather sober oranges and browns set the stage in the lower end rooms - though some have bright Missoni-style duvets. Upper category digs have brighter, cheerier colours, a bit more space and those fabulous ocean views mentioned earlier. All the rooms have some simple art on the walls (best described as 'airplane collage'), TVs (cleverly concealed in better rooms) as well as internet hookups. There's also a small fitness centre and a rooftop pool with views of the beach, Corcovado and Sugar Loaf. Prices here include breakfast as well as airport transfers.

Author Tip
Around the corner, La Trattoria (tel: 2255 3319; Rua Fernando Mendes 7A) is an old-fashioned Italian restaurant that's been serving fresh, tasty cuisine for over 30 years. Their signature dish is the spaghetti with shrimp and truffle oil - well worth ordering.
