Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Along one of Copacabana's most peaceful streets, this simple three-story hotel has some charming, old-fashioned features, and it's a nice alternative to the high-rises found elsewhere in the neighborhood.

On our last visit to town, we saw monkeys scuttling about on the trees on nearby Praça Edmundo Bittencourt. This only adds to the allure of the quaint tree-lined neighborhood. The hotel itself is set in a white building with blue shutters and has a handful of comfortable rooms with wooden floors and dark-wood antique bed frames, but few other furnishings. The best are the front-facing rooms as they come complete with small balconies that catch a fresh breeze in the evenings. The rooms at the back feel a little cramped without the added space. It's less than a 10-minute walk to the mayhem of Copacabana beach.

Author Tip

For a good local eatery away from the tourist hordes, stroll up to Pontinho (tel: 2257 1676; Rua Décio Vilares 360). Tucked away on a peaceful corner of the neighborhood, this is a traditional open-sided boteco (casual bar/eatery) serving sizzling platters of picanha (rump steak), grilled chicken, omelets and other satisfying dishes to a beer-loving crowd.
