Lonely Planet Review
Occupying five floors of a large 19th-century palazzo, Hotel Amalia has rooms divided into 'classic' and 'superior' categories. The difference is largely one of decor: superior rooms boast blue-and-yellow striped fabrics, smart wood furnishings and marble-clad bathrooms. Classic rooms are more basic, but still pleasantly bright.
Comfort and convenience are what you pay for here. With St Peter's Basilica about 10 minutes' walk away, any number of trattorie and cafes in the vicinity, and the Ottaviano metro stop just down the road, it's well placed for travellers with a serious sightseeing agenda. Night owls might be disappointed by the lack of pubs and clubs in the area. The pastel-coloured rooms are smart, spotlessly clean and, by Roman standards, comfortably big. Much the same can be said of the bathrooms, which come with power showers. High-speed Internet connections are available. Some final observations: breakfast is not great, there's no air-con in single rooms, and an airport pick up is available.
