Lonely Planet Review
The Columbia makes a good first impression with its brick-floored reception and smiling staff. Beneath the smart veneer, however, signs of wear and tear are beginning to show (scuff marks in the lift, for example). But these are minor gripes. Rooms are bright and reasonably big, all have data plugs and some have beautiful Murano crystal chandeliers.
Not 10 minutes' walk from Termini, this inviting three-star is a beacon of laid-back charm in a noisy workaday area. As road drills bore into asphalt and sirens wail in the near distance, retreat to the roof garden, grab a drink and let the worries of the world fade into the Roman night. In summer the ample buffet breakfast is served here. Priding itself on its customer service (as well it might, judging by the comments in the guest book), the Columbia sports a polished look with wood-beamed ceilings and wrought iron furniture, tasteful white-walled rooms and dark wood cabinets.
