Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The Clubby is a busy, posh place located across the street from Sapporo Beer Factory (though beer's not brewed there anymore). Come here if you want to be pampered in style. Rooms are spacious, luxury affairs with great views of the city and surrounds, and staff are happy to help when cornered and many speak excellent English.

A popular choice for weddings and other gala events, the Clubby's lobby has an enormous blue sundial and muted lighting, while rooms - especially the more expensive ones - are minimalist, with clean lines, simple colours and lots of space. Like all high-end places, the Clubby's 'Barley' restaurant and bar has slightly pricey fare and good drinks, though it seems a crime not to venture out into the city for meals.

Author Tip

Cross the street and catch a movie at Universal Theatres, or cross another street to shop or dine in the Sapporo Factory, a mall made out of what was once the Sapporo Brewery. The current Sapporo Beer tours aren't far away, either, so tipplers may want to stumble further eastward for a tour of this famous establishment. Be warned, though: sampling the beverages afterwards is pricey.
