Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The Hotel Line (line means rain in Japanese), is in the heart of Susukino and is one of the few places whose rates don't skyrocket during Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival). It's inexpensive and worn, yet rooms are clean and as spacious as those in more expensive hotels nearby. Japanese-style options make it almost feel like a minshuku (family-run B&B) or ryokan.

The Hotel Line is perfect for anyone planning on staying in Sapporo long enough that budget becomes a vital priority. The Line welcomes foreigners but please be sure to call if you need to cancel a reservation - recent problems have made it clear that Westerners often fail to extend this courtesy. Anyone who does stay here will not be disappointed - it's a dirt-cheap hotel, just without the dirt. There's no curfew, the night receptionist speaks good English and breakfast is served until lunchtime!

Author Tip

You can't avoid the neon craziness of Susukino here: the giant face of King Xmhu is close, there's lots of strip clubs and peep shows (and their attendant hawkers), but there are also great noodle shops and yakitori (skewered meat) places to find, plus Tanuki-koji Arcade for shopping. You can hop on the subway for access to the station or other parts of Sapporo.
