Manned by professional staff, this 27-storey hotel has been transformed over recent years into a well-managed and proficient four-star hotel.

The pink postmodern exterior of this edifice is hardly something to note on a postcard, although the constant roar of West Yan'an Rd - on twin levels - is a constant reminder that Shanghai is a city of over two million cars. The weary marble of the lobby area could do with removal and replacement, but grumblings aside, the Sino-Singaporean Equatorial is an efficient enough hotel. It's located southwest of Jing'an Park and a short walk from Jing'an Temple metro station - perfectly suitable for both business travellers and those traipsing about town. Rooms are smallish but tastefully, if rather simply, furnished, with rather old-looking bathrooms. Hotel service is satisfactory throughout and there's a large choice of restaurants (including a popular international buffet in the lobby cafe) plus a bar with live music. Travellers can take advantage of the wireless high-speed Internet access.
