Quotes Shanghai has long been short of budget hostels aimed at international travellers. This new addition to the backpacker hostel scene, a short hike from the Bund on the southern corner of the grand old Hengfeng Building, is a welcome arrival.

On offer is a variety of rooms, including tidy four- and six-bed dorms with pine bunk beds, clean communal shower facilities (hot water 12:00-20:00), a bar, free movies and an excellent location. The hostel has three good value luxury doubles, decorated in a Chinese style with huge beds and shower room. The foyer comes with green leatherette sofas and a useful notice board, bike rental and Internet access (three terminals; free).

How To Get There

1. Hongqiao Airport: take No.925 bus to 'People's Square', then take metro line 2 to 'East Nanjing Road' or take a taxi directly to the hostel with the fare around 10 yuan (RMB). 2. Pudong Airport: take airport shuttle bus No.3 or No.7 or maglev train to 'Longyang Road', then take metro to 'East Nanjing Road'. The hostel is about a 10-minutes walk from the bus stop. 3. Shanghai Railway Station: take No. 64 bus to 'Middle Jiangxi Road', the hostel is about a 5-minutes walk from the bus stop; or take metro No.2 to 'East Nanjing Road', the hostel is about a 10-minutes walk from the bus stop. 4. Shanghai Meilong Railway Station: First, take metro line 1 to 'People's Square', then change to metro line 2 to 'East Nanjing Road'.
