The four-star Ramada offers tourists a supreme location on Shanghai's most famous shopping strip, right at the centre of town. Although the overdone lobby, dripping with marble, is unsubtle and overpowering, the impressive hidden inner atrium makes up for it.
The overwrought classical and Rococo lobby pillars, furniture and statues are all too much, but thankfully less pomp and more subtlety can be found elsewhere, especially in the more casual and modern design of the upstairs restaurants and in the stained glass ceiling above. The comfortable rooms are modern and pleasant as you would expect for a four-star hotel in this part of town. Rooms come with 21-inch TVs and there is wireless Internet access in all superior rooms. The hotel has a Thai and Western restaurant, a China Eastern office, a large business centre off the lobby. The Club Ramada fills the upper floors, though gym facilities aren't up to much, if that's on your wish list.
