Lonely Planet Review
In a big old 19th-century house in the centre of Glebe, the Alishan is clean, quiet and well run, with OK communal areas and a room that can accommodate disabled travellers. The house itself is the grandest thing about the whole operation - the rooms themselves are fairly straightforward affairs, but it's a popular budget choice for many.
While it touts itself as 'multilingual', as far as we can tell, the only language you can bank on being spoken is English. If you're after an international flavour, we'd recommend booking one of the tatami mat rooms, which are simply decorated Japanese style. While there's an adequate kitchen on the premises, your proximity to some of Glebe's multicultural eating options means you probably won't want to make use of it. Dorm beds are available.
