Lonely Planet Review
The Highfield is one of Sydney's most highly regarded budget options, and with good reason - the standards of cleanliness and comfort are high, despite facilities being basic and unfussy. You can probably put this down to the fact that the hotel is Swedish owned and operated, and has enjoyed almost 20 years of stable, no-nonsense management.
Housed in a high, well-maintained building, rooms are plain but show signs of regular overhauls. When we popped in, all the beds had had their mattresses recently replaced and the sort of fixtures that show the most punishment (such as bathrooms and carpets) were in great shape. And we can't remember the last time we found Bibles in each and every dorm room, but this place provides them, as well as well-priced, decent French food at the in-house eatery known as Cafe de Marie. If you need a view on a budget, ask for the top floor double room at the front and bring your earplugs. Despite its location in backpacker central, this is a highly ordered, well-regulated establishment and most definitely not a party hostel.
