Lonely Planet Review
Standing sentinel-like at Millers Point, the Palisade Hotel has solidly, stolidly furnished rooms, some with breathtaking views of the harbour. It's a funky old heritage building (though the shared bathrooms definitely reflect its age), and it's in a part of The Rocks that has thankfully avoided the twee, 'ye olde worlde' curse.
The ground-floor pub is certainly a boozer of the old school - with waterside workers, locals and heavy smokers enjoying laid-back beers. If you're after great food, the on-site restaurant is a breath of fresh air - although perhaps that description really belongs to the fabulous rooftop of the pub, which has some of the best views of Sydney Harbour you could ever hope for. Some of the rooms have balconies, which are nice for unwinding, although many rooms also cop the full glare of the sun - note the very faded prints on the wall.
