Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The wholesome Bellclassic screams plain vanilla, though perhaps it's the fancy variety of that flavour. From the clean rooms to the polite staff, the place is all smoothness. Rooms measure up to others of its class in size (read: smallish), though they're big enough to accommodate both a desk and small table. Inside the hotel the atmosphere is sedate and civilised, and the surrounds give you some breathing room from the crazier, go-go-go energy of central Tokyo. Though Otsuka doesn't offer much excitement for the visitor, it's as bustling as any typical suburb of inner Tokyo. The Bellclassic is just steps from the JR station, putting you one stop from Ikebukuro and about 10 minutes from Shinjuku. And when you feel like battling the crowds would be just too much, the hotel has several decent restaurants in-house.

Author Tip

Hop the train to Ikebukuro to spice up your dinner options. You're only one stop away on the Yamanote line from Ikebukuro's giant shopping centres, pachinko (pinball game - a Japanese craze) parlours and the Ikebukuro Gyoza Stadium in the World Import Mart Building. Some of Tokyo's best gyoza (Chinese dumpling) restaurants have branches clustered in an eminently Japanese theme park setting.
