Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Located in internationally diverse Roppongi, the Ibis is used to hosting foreigners and has polite staff well-versed in English. The rooms are standard, pink-toned fare that characterises Tokyo business hotels, with small bathrooms and Internet access enabled in some. For those that aren't, pay PCs are lined up in the lobby for guest use. The back of the building receives a fair amount of noise from popular bars like the Tokyo Sports Cafe. The Ibis is ideal for people seeking to party and crash in the neighbourhood - eliminating the need for a pricey taxi ride or an all-nighter. Plus, it has the worldliest karaoke lounge around, with private rooms styled out in destination themes from disco-ball Ibiza to pillow-padded Morocco to 'heaven' (who knew heaven was all about blue lights and white lucite?).

Author Tip

Spend your day at the megacomplex of Roppongi Hills, where contemporary art, restaurants, cinema and, of course, shopping are likely to suck you in for hours. Also in the area is the National Art Center, Tokyo (tel: 6812-9900; 7-22-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku;), an architectural marvel. Then take a nap before club-crawling your way through a wild Tokyo night.
