Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Glass elevators are all the rage these days in Ulaanbaatar and the Bishrelt contributes to this trend by sticking one in its interior atrium. Other than that, it's a fairly standard hotel, with a drapery-heavy dining room, quiet pub, and a billiards table. It overlooks the vast Liberty Plaza, dwarfed by its giant neighbour, the Lenin Museum.

Rooms at the Bishrelt are some of the biggest you'll get anywhere in Ulaanbaatar, with two double beds, TV, phone and desk. The interior design is one of mismatched carpeting and bedding in hues of red or green. Try to get a room on the south-facing side of the hotel, where you'll have views of downtown Ulaanbaatar and the hulking mountain Bogd Uul in the distance. The interior atrium doesn't get any direct sunlight and makes the place feel a little gloomy; however, the staff gets points for being extraordinarily friendly and helpful. Prices include breakfast.

Author Tip

Movie culture is just starting to take off in Mongolia and you can enjoy a film at the Tengis movie theatre opposite the hotel. This is Mongolia's first modern theatre, with digital sound projection and comfy seats. There is usually one Hollywood film playing, or you could try your luck with a Mongolian flick. Afterwards, enjoy a cake at the pastry shop in the adjacent Lenin Museum.
