Lonely Planet Review

Quotes With its striking green facade, high-quality rooms and delightful service, the Evergreen is worth considering, especially for the reasonable rates. The reason for the low prices is the unsightly location close to the railway station. A short walk or taxi ride gets you into the centre of town.

The Evergreen is a brand new building and everything about the place sparkles. From the marble lobby to the spotless rooms and tasteful decor, you'll feel like your money is well spent. The deluxe rooms are decked out with mini bar, large-screen TV, DVD player and a safe. Standard rooms also have large TVs, double beds and a balcony (you can watch the trains pass on their way to China and Russia). The hotel lobby has a coffee shop and a restaurant serving European and Mongolian food. Unfortunately Internet access here is overpriced. It should also be stated that new buildings in Mongolia tend to deteriorate rapidly so in all likelihood the fresh appearance won't last long. However, if you don't mind the location, this is for now one of the best-value options in the city.

Author Tip

There are several excellent restaurants in the centre of Ulaanbaatar, a short taxi ride from the hotel. For lunch try to find a seat at the American-style Millie's Café where you can get excellent, burgers, shakes and fries. Nearby and overlooking the Monastery Museum of Choijin Lama is Veranda, an excellent Italian restaurant and one of the best-value places in the city.
