Lonely Planet Review
Once one of Ulaanbaatar's better hotels, the Flower is starting to show its age. It's a rambling place with a variety of rooms that are clean and relatively spacious. Note that the standard rooms have a toilet but no shower or bath (you have to use the Japanese-style bathhouse for a wash).
With 180 rooms, the Flower is one of the biggest hotels in the city, although from the outside it appears a little dumpy. The lobby is dim but has character; there is a display of traditional Mongolian outfits and the ceiling is shaped like the inside of a ger roof. Rooms are well-appointed, except for the basic single rooms which lack private washing facilities; avoid these unless you don't mind sharing the public bath with groups of Japanese tourists. The Flower is reasonably located just a little out of the centre and up a short hill. On the plus side, the Japanese restaurant is one of the best in town.

Author Tip
The National Museum of Mongolian History is a great introduction to the country. Browsing through its halls will provide you with a good sense of Mongolian history and culture. The highlight of the museum is the 3rd-floor map of Karakorum that shows in detail how the great city looked before its eventual disappearance.
