Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Reliable, friendly and central, Khongor is a great place to start your Mongolian adventure. Carved out of an apartment block are several dorm and private rooms with kitchen facilities. What sets this place apart is its extraordinarily helpful management - owners Toroo and Degi are great with trip organisation and logistics.

Dorm rooms are plain-looking but get lots of light and each bed has its own reading light, curtain and safety box. You can use the common kitchen and enjoy free cups of tea all day. They also let you check your email for free and have other niceties like free pick up from the airport and a free (basic) breakfast. The private rooms are cheap but a little small. Like the dorms, they all share a single bathroom. With a little more cash you could rent out an entire two-room apartment for around 25.00 per day.Service here is personal reliable. The owners seem to spend every waking hour helping guests to organise trips and work on logistics like visa support and organising airline or train tickets. They are reliable, hard-working and very good at what they do.

Author Tip

From pots and pans to laptops and lounge chairs, you can get pretty much anything at the nearby State Department Store. The first floor is a good place to grab a local newspaper or do some grocery shopping, but if you're looking for souvenirs head up to the fifth floor, which contains maps, books and all manner of tourist kitsch.
