Lonely Planet Review

Quotes In the heart of the city, Nassan offers accommodation in one of six apartments spread over one building. Dorm or private rooms are available, all with shared bathrooms. Each apartment also contains its own kitchen. Try to get a room on the quieter courtyard side of the building.

Because the apartments are spread throughout the building, sometimes in different stairwells, you may not see all the patrons staying here. This lessens the communal feel of the place; however, it does add some privacy. There is one main apartment where Nassan keeps her office and organizes trips for guests. The rooms themselves are generally clean and comfortable but a bit rough around the edges and without much character. There are various services, including free breakfast, lockers, book exchange, internet access and laundry. You reach the guesthouse from the rear of the building.

Author Tip

Ulaanbaatar's 'restaurant row' is a short walk from Nassan's Guesthouse. Walk down Peace Ave towards the Post Office, cross the street and you'll spot the Khan Brau, a well-known Swiss-run operation that serves pub grub and beer. Behind the Khan Brau you'll find three more delightful restaurants. Millie's Café serves hot sandwiches for lunch, nearby Silk Road offers tasty Mediterranean and Central Asian cuisine while Veranda specialises in reasonably-priced Italian fare.
