Lonely Planet Review

Quotes This 31-room hotel just off the Square is a popular choice with visiting journalists and diplomats wanting to be close to the action. Overall the service is good and there is an excellent Indian restaurant in the lobby.

The hotel is new and still in pretty good condition (though the interior decor, with its mismatched colour schemes, leaves much to be desired). Rooms offer little in the way of a view (most face vacant alleys) and the single rooms have tiny bathrooms. For its part, the lobby is reasonably attractive, and contains a lounge area with large screen TV. The 05:00 check-in time is also useful if you happen to arrive at that ungodly hour - just give some advance notice that you are on your way. In the unlikely event that you arrive by car, you'll be pleased to know the Puma has a heated garage.

Author Tip

Head out the Puma, turn right and walk across the next intersection to the French Bistro, one of Ulaanbaatar's best restaurants. This restaurant never fails to impress with its excellent soups, appetizers and main dishes. They do a fantastic beef fillet, which you can enjoy with a nice French red wine. The ambience is very peaceful, with soft jazz playing in the background. Bring your laptop to take advantage of their free wi-fi.
