Lonely Planet Review
Modern, spacious and surprisingly upscale, Zaya's guesthouse raises the bar for quality guesthouses in Ulaanbaatar. It occupies the entire third floor of a new apartment block in the centre of the city, and has private rooms and dorms. It caters mainly towards long-term visitors working or volunteering in Ulaanbaatar.
The guesthouse has no sign on the exterior; the place is already so popular that it needs no advertisement. Inside, there are spacious hallways, two kitchens for cooking your own meals, a comfortable lounge, Internet access and very modern bathrooms. Bedrooms have hard-wood floors, new furnishings and fresh linen. The management prefers semi-long-term residents so you are sure to meet an interesting crowd of people here. Zaya speaks English, Russian and Chinese and her assistance gets high marks from travellers. As the wife of a diplomat she has lived in various countries, including China, Russia and Egypt. When booking a room, request something in the new block behind the Peace and Friendship Building. The original flat, off Peace Ave just behind the Za Internet Café, is still used but its older and not as good value.
