Lonely Planet review

Basic, comfortable and well-located, this no-frills downtown motel offers good off-season deals and is strolling distance to just about everything. Free parking is a big plus, along with complimentary wi-fi.

Past its 1980s prime, this downtown old-school motel property has recently lost a couple of the big draws that regulars kept coming back for. The swimming pool has gone and the late-night live music lounge has headed to the city's trad bar graveyard. What's left is a low-rise sleepover where the décor seems to incorporate every shade of pink imaginable. The fairly large rooms, accessed via a slow, clunky-sounding elevator, are air-conditioned and generally welcoming (once you get past the musty aroma) but they contain mostly scuffed furnishings and tiny bathtubs - along with pastel-pink carpets. The old on-site greasy spoon restaurant is still around (open for breakfast and lunch) and free wi-fi was recently introduced. Parking is free here and you're just a couple of blocks from the Granville St entertainment district.
