Lonely Planet Review
Nestled up a quiet, narrow alley right next to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum is this contemporary design hotel named after its address. With just seven rooms and buckets of modern art, it feels intimate and stylish.
Designed by architect Mauro Mazzolini, DD724 is littered with paintings, photographs and sculptures - the huge red wobbly tower lamp by Condalini in reception is a highlight. Rooms are on the minimalist side, with wi-fi, flat-screen LCD TVs, brown leather beds and bare floors. Each has its own original work of art, but practical things such as lights are also art. In one room there's a light that appears to have an enormously long cord. Don't pull it - a more discreet switch actually works the thing, if you can find it. The superior double is larger than the standard rooms and has a balcony overlooking the Guggenheim garden - if you want your designer en suite to have a bath tub, book this room or the suite.

Author Tip
You can see the garden of the Peggy Guggenheim Museum from the breakfast room, but you really should walk around the corner and go inside. As well as Peggy's old furniture, you can see her eclectic and interesting collection of 20th-century art. She and her dogs are buried in the garden.
