Hidden down a small lane leading to the canal, this cheap and cheerful hotel, prettified with window boxes dripping geraniums, welcomes you inside. The reception area is warm and cosy and the owners Francesco and Alessandro are equally hospitable.

Although the rooms here are fairly simple, many of them have a secret weapon - views of the sweet little canal. These are the ones to request. There's only one real single room and that overlooks the terrace which faces the canal, so you don't strictly have a canal view even though it's on the right side of the building. It's a nice room though. No 6 is the largest and No 5 one of the most popular (it's smaller but has a great view). If you don't snag a view from your room, you can always take a drink on the sizeable terrace. The rooms in the main building have private bathrooms, while those over the lane share. Happily it's not a long walk to the toilet.
