Locanda Fiorita facade

Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Set on a hidden square (Campiello Novo), the blooming russet red facade of the Locanda Fiorita is as welcoming as its beaming, well-dressed owner Daniele. Ca' Morosoni is its smart but slightly noisier annex just around the corner.

Taking breakfast on the little tables outside the Fiorita feels a world away from the hubbub of nearby Campo Santo Stefano. Inside the Locanda, the decor is fairly traditional with timber ceilings, damask bedspreads and old-style furniture. No 1 is lovely and spacious with a good view of the square - it's one of the best rooms. Equally fought over is No 10, which is smaller but has a private terrace. Around the corner is Ca' Morosoni - the rooms here are slightly plusher, but you are on Campo Santo Stefano so it's a little noisier, and there's no outside space. Guests often pop around to Fiorita for their breakfast. During Carnevale one year they had a guest who spent the entire two weeks dressed as an angel complete with wings - he even had breakfast in costume.

How To Get There

DIRECTIONS For directions may I suggest the following.when you arrive in Venice, either at Piazzale Roma or the train railway station, please take the A.C.T.V. (vaporetto) water bus, number #1, to the S .Angelo stop. Upon disembarking, walk straight until you find a tall brick building. Take the alley on the right side of the building following it around the corner : street' s name: Ramo Narisi. Walk until you find a small bridge. When you are at the top of the bridge, turn left and go straight until you will be able to see a courtyard on your right side; the hotel is placed there

Author Tip

Just opposite Ca' Morosoni is the Chiesa di Santo Stefano, built by the Augustinian order in the late 13th/early 14th centuries. Spot the decorated ceiling (like an upturned ship) and Tintoretto's Last Supper in the sacristy. From Campo Sant' Angelo you can see that the church's bell tower has a rather worrying lean.

Curious Fact

The full name of the little square housing Locanda Fiorita is Campiello Nuovo o dei Morti. It used to be a cemetery but Napoleon found urban cemeteries unsanitary and banned them, so the bodies were moved. Happily, Daniele has never seen any ghosts here.
