Quotes In a city where the old Venetian style of decor and furnishings is prevalent, Ca' Riccio makes a happy change with simple iron beds, white walls and tiled floors. The hotel offers complimentary tours to the Murano glass-blowing factories.

The Riccio family have done a good job of converting this apartment into a bright seven-room hotel. Set over two floors at the top of a building, an iron staircase leads to No 6, one of the nicer rooms - a cosy bedroom in the eaves, complete with exposed beams and a sweet little bathroom. Out of the window you have a view of the Chiesa di San Giovanni & Paolo and a children's school where the owner's son Cristiano was a pupil. Each bedroom has an iron table and chairs where you can take breakfast (there's no breakfast room) and a minibar for that essential night-cap. If you need to surf the web, there's also in-room Internet access. This neighbourhood is central, but hidden away from the packs of tourists and has a quiet, local feel.

If you look to the right when you reach the canal at the end of the street you can see Casanova's house. In the other direction you have the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli so-called because it was constructed with the left-over marble from Basilica di San Marco and this was considered miraculous. The Campo Santa Maria Nova over the canal is an alluring spot for a drink.
