Its name may suggest schizophrenia runs in the family, but staff know exactly what Hotel-Pension Suzanne is: a solid accommodation option in the very centre of Vienna with characterful rooms and plenty of warmth.

Suzanne's facade may be an eyesore from the 1950s, but inside the owners have successfully managed to create a slice of fin de siècle Vienna. Comfortable and attractive antique furniture, in a multitude of hues and finished in polished wood, fills the rooms and distract you from their small size. Fortunately the interior designers had the foresight not to fashion 19th-century bathrooms as well; here you'll find modern showers and whiter-than-white tiling. Extras that add to Suzanne's charm include stacks of information on classical concerts, umbrellas to borrow on rainy days, and unusually friendly and helpful staff. The pension's 26 rooms, some of which come complete with full kitchenette, face either the quiet inner courtyard or busier Walfischgasse.
