Lonely Planet Review
When it comes to location, it's hard to beat this budget pad, which occupies a prime position overlooking the Mekong river. A modern guesthouse with all the basic amenities, the friendly family running the place ensure a warm welcome for all.
Set over several floors, it is worth climbing the extra stairs for a bigger and better view of the river… no, there's no lift, so you have to earn your view. The rooms are plain but comfortable and come in two flavours, fan or air-con. The rooms are cleaned daily and are as spotless as possible for a budget guesthouse in Laos. The cheapest rooms involve a short walk to a shared bathroom, but most rooms have en suites. Downstairs is a small coffee shop where breakfast is served daily, plus a basic menu of Lao favourites, western greatest hits and a selection of drinks. Look out for the lush pot plants out front and you'll see that this is a place that takes pride in its appearance.

Author Tip
Go native with a stroll across the road to the atmospheric riverside stalls. Boasting the best view of the Mekong in town, pop over at sunset for a cold bottle of Beerlao before indulging in some local delicacies. Chicken-on-a-stick is a local favourite, and the garlic fried river fish is as fresh as it gets, straight out of the river daily.
