Lonely Planet Review
A relative newcomer on the guesthouse scene, the Vayakorn has rapidly established itself as one of the most popular guesthouses in Vientiane. The smart, stylish and spacious rooms are a bargain compared with some of the 'better' hotels around town.
Set in a quiet street two blocks west of Nam Phu, rooms at the front boast views over the leafy garden and colonial-era building of Carol Cassidy's Lao Textiles. All rooms have polished floors, satellite TV and spotless bathrooms, which really are in the hotel league… time for a name change perhaps - Vayakorn Hotel anyone? Service is friendly and professional, and rooms are cleaned daily. Breakfast, coffee and snacks are served downstairs. The only downside is that it is often full these days, as it comes so highly recommended by our very own Lonely Planet guide to Laos. Since making the 'Author's Choice' it has been heaving at the hinges ever since, and deservedly so.

Author Tip
Make for Khop Chai Deu, probably the most popular bar-restaurant in town, occupying a restored colonial mansion near the Nam Phu fountain. Warm up outside with a happy-hour jug of Beerlao then venture in to sample the menu. Highlights include spicy Lao specialties, Indian favourites and popular western dishes. A reasonable range of wine is also available. It's easy to while away a whole night here.
