The longest-running and best-equipped hostel, the Shuyuan also has an excellent location next to the South Gate. The laid-back lounge and courtyard areas are great places to hang out with fellow travellers. It's 20m west of the South Gate along the city walls. Take bus 603 from opposite the train station.
