You won't get services like a restaurant and reception area, but a couple of the rooms here are true gems and there's a pleasant home-away-from-home feel. The choice of rooms, distributed among two buildings surrounding a quiet courtyard, is small but varied and most have access to kitchens. You can save a bundle of money by sharing a bathroom with a neighbour - who could easily be your friend if you book a block of rooms together. The triples are essentially big studio apartments with private kitchens and fine furniture. One has a fine wood ceiling and a gorgeous, albeit decorative, old cobalt heater in the corner. There are a couple of charming attic doubles with slanted ceilings but steer clear of these in the warm months because there's no air-con. The guest house is not equipped for disabled people and is probably not ideal for kids either because of the close living quarters. Annoyingly, breakfast costs extra and parking in the courtyard incurs a nightly fee.

Bound up Bernardinu gatve, sprint north on Pilies, dash across the park and gallop up Gediminas Hill for the best panorama in Vilnius. Return to earth via Cathedral Square and peer into Vilnius Cathedral before hopping over to Avilys on Gedimino prospektas for some deep-fried garlic bread sticks and a well-deserved home brew. Both the dark beer and the honey beer are recommended.
